Merry Christmas!
‘And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.’ St. John 1:14
I wish you all a very merry Christmas!
The entire Christmas season is about celebrating one of two of the most important events in the history of the world: the Incarnation of our Lord Jesus Christ. The Eternal Son and Logos (Word) of God, in all His divine glory, chose to enter His own creation. He became Emmanuel (God with us). He was born of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the Mother of God and He was fully God and fully man.
The Incarnation matters so deeply to me and other Christians because it is an act of pure merciful intention and pure love from God who is both purely merciful and purely loving. The Lord did this not out of necessity, but out of grace.
This Sunday, I will be reading Hebrews 2:10-18 as the New Testament reading during Mass, and in this passage the author of Hebrews touches on a reason for Our Lord to be incarnate as both fully God and fully Man which is to be our Human High Priest. Christ needed to be our High Priest so that He could be able to represent us to Our Lord to offer the perfect sacrifice to God. This sacrifice was perfect because He remained fully divine, and it was Himself given once and for all for the forgiveness of sins.
Christmas is not merely about a birth. It is about The Most High’s deliberate choice to humble Himself and dwell in His own creation so that He may suffer with us, and ultimately save us.
As you enjoy the festivities of Christmas, I invite you all to prayerfully meditate in thanksgiving on the mystery of the Incarnation.
Merry Christmas!
